March 2007 - March 2008 History

Together Everyone Achieves More

Firstly I would like to thank you all for the support so far and hope this carries on throughout the season. Steve and I aim to develop the boys’ potential over the year but maintain some sense of competitive spirit.

We have now had three tournaments since the new summer coaching sessions started and these have been very encouraging to watch the boys play some great football culminating in winning a trophy.

The 2007 Worthing Minors Tournament saw us come 3rd in our group of 7 with 7-0 and 4-1 wins, 3 0-0 draws and a 0-1 defeat. Not quite enough to get us through to the next phase. Scorers were Jack 5, James 4, Thomas & Jacob.

We then had a superb day at West Ham playing at Upton Park where the boys excelled themselves to reach the semi finals. Winning our three league games 4-0, 4-1 and 2-1 we got through to play a tense Quarter Final eventually winning 3-1. The 0-6 semi final defeat broke the boys hearts but the team they played went on to win the tournament and probably were the best under 9 team we are likely to play. Scorers that day were James 7, Ben 2, Bradley 2, Jack & Thomas.

Sunday June 3rd Lancing Rangers Tournament. Saw us win our first ever trophy. After losing 0-2 in the first game to Hove Park Colts we went on to qualify from our tough group in 3rd place winning 3-0, 3-0, 4-0 and drawing 1-1 twice. A nail biting quarter final against Oakwood saw us go through 4-3 after extra time. A semi final against hove Park Colts saw us win 2-1 to get to the final. In the final we beat Seagulls 5-0 to be winners. Scorers for the day were James 13, Ben 6, Jacob 3 & Oli. Well done to the other boys Jack, Thomas, Bradley and Todd.

Saturday 30th June - Upper Beeding Tournament. A very wet summers day saw us reach the semi finals again only to lose out 0-1 to Lancing Rangers. Having thought we were league winners after 4-0, 1-1, 3-0, 5-0 and 1-0 wins, we learnt that we had in fact tied on points and goals scored and goal difference with the team we drew 1-1. So we had to take part in a penalty shoot out against them, which we lost 4-5. This meant we went through as runners up to play the harder semi against Lancing Rangers. Goals scored James 7, Jack 4, Simon 2 and Bradley, well done to Todd, Charles and Ben.

PATCHAM TOURNAMENT 26/8/07

On one of the hottest summer days in what has been the wettest summer in recent times, our boys were overcome with heat exhaustion and this had an effect on their performance. Winning 3 drawing 1 and losing 2 was not enough to take us through a tough qualifying group to the semi finals. Goalscores were Jacob 4, Ben 2 and James 1
Well done also to Jack and Matt who shared the goalkeeping and to Thomas and Oli for their defensive duties.
