u10 Match Reports 2007/08

Fishersgate Flyers W 2-1 L 1-6
On a wet windy morning we saw probably our best all round performance and after going 0-1 down following a bit of injustice saw us dig deep to come out on top in a really good game of football. Tom and James scored the goals but good defensive displays from Jack in goal, Bradley,George and Simon held firm at the back. James got MoM and it was a great way to finish the season.

All there is to say in this game was well done to Charles for scoring and well done to Joe G for his MoM. We were outplayed in all departments today and again lack of passion and desire did not make up for lack of ability.

Patcham United Blue W 7-1 W 3-0
After a slow start we clicked into gear and when the ball was moved around it was a delight to watch. Goals from Tom(2)James(2)Bradley, George and at last a goal for Thomas following his deflected shot. If we had scored from our numerous other chances we could have racked up the biggest score this season but their keeper was outstanding. Thomas was Man of Match which again could have gone to several players.

We were in control for most of the game and passed the ball really well in patches. Joe G Willis and Matthew all scoring today and good chances fell to other players during the match. Man of the match went to Willis for his second half effort. Thanks to Todd for going in goal and letting Matt play on pitch.

Withdean FC W 11-2 W 5-0
The passing, moving and finishing were again all superb. Bradley scoring after 10 seconds with the quickest goal of the season set the scene in a one sided game. James with 4 Bradley scoring his second, Tom and Jack getting 2 each and Ben with 1 everyone got in on the score sheet. Just Thomas and George didnt score but both their performances more than made up for it. In fact George was given MoM for his all round display.

A very strong team performance saw us get our biggest win of the season with Jacob scoring 4 after Joe W opened the scoring. Some good interplay saw us pass and move well during the game and we could have had a few more goals if other chances had been taken. Jacob got MoM but again this could have gone to a few players who deserved credit.

Hove Rivervale W 2-1 W 2-0
Another fine team performance against a strong opposition. Some great play saw us get in front with Bradley's pass for James to score. Then a mistake by Jack dropping a long goal kick straight to their forward let them back in with an equaliser. We brought out some good saves from their keeper and Tom hit the top of the post with a good effort. Bradley managed to get the winner midway through the second half. MoM went to Ben but again it was a hard choice to pick one player out from the team.

The second game we played well and passed the ball around nicely. Although missing 3 players we looked strong at the back with Matthew making some great saves and Charles looking assured. Joe R was MoM for filling in well at the back.
Goals in each half for Simon and Todd saw us win comfortably 2-0. Jack had a 10 minute run out at the end as a substitute for a jet-lagged Willis.

Withdean Youth W 4-1 L 0-3
Once again we showed our spirit in coming back from going a goal down albeit against the run of play. Having players play in different positions it is really encouraging to see the style of football being played and shows how adaptable our team is. A great lob by Ben from 25 yards drew us level just after half time and then a superb second half hat trick from Tom let us run out as convincing winners. The m.o.m award was a hard choice and could have gone to a few players but it was given to Bradley for playing well as a striker in the first half and as a defender in the second half.

We did not compete well enough against a strong Withdean second side. It only looked like one team really wanting to win. Our only chance came at the end of the first half with Joe G hitting his shot against the post following a great through pass from Joe W. Matthew won m.o.m for another outstanding goalkeeping display and kept the score down to only 0-3 Todd also had a solid game and put in the effort needed.

Southwick Rangers W 13-1 W 3-1
An outstanding performance saw us score our highest ever win with 6 players getting on the scoresheet. At half time it was 8-0 and some of the passing and movement was excellent on a tight pitch. James(4)Bradley(3)Jack(2)Tom(2) George and Ben doing the honours. George was man of the match for a solid performance. Thank you to Ben and James for sharing the goalkeeping duties allowing Jack to play on pitch.

A much improved team performance saw us win 3-1 against a strong (and maybe the main) Southwick side. We showed again that we can play good football and pass to each other and defensively looked sound. Simon was again solid in his game but Todd just edged him out for the man of the match.

Patcham United White L 1-3 L 0-2
We decided to mix the positions up at the start to see if the boys can adapt to various positions and despite some heart in mouth occasions they played really well during the a tough first half. Following some good play down the right handside and a cross by Tom, Ben scored the goal of the season at the end of first half. The positional sense of some probably cost us for two early second half goals and we couldn’t get back once we fell behind. Good all round performance and didn’t deserve to lose the game. MoM to Jack for some good saves but could have gone to Tom, Ben or Bradley for their performances.

We seemed to start the game asleep and played in slow motion and finished even slower. Even though playing against the strongest second team there is we should start instilling a bit of desire and passion as that may make up for the difference in abilities. Losing only 0-2 was a let off and a couple of great saves from Matt saved us from a heavier defeat. We couldn’t take our chances and Simon missed a penalty which may have lifted us. MoM went to Simon for his all round efforts.

Adur Athletic W 2-1 W 1-0
Our first game in 7 weeks showed at times as we didn't click on all cylinders other times we played some good football but playing against a team that keeps 4 players in front of goal was hard to break down. James direct from a corner and a second after some nice interchange play with Ben, scored twice quite early on. Ben then missed a penalty after their keeper made a good save. We got caught out at the back following a break and let in a sloppy goal. No goals in a frustrating second half. Ben got man of match for his all round efforts.

Having 80% of the play only saw us score once through Oli. Much of the football we played was a much higher standard than the opposition and Willis with some neat one touch passing just missed out on man of the match which went to Charles for a strong display at the back.

Withdean FC W 4-1 W 6-1
Another good win after coming back for the second week running from going 1-0 down against the run of play. Very solid performances throughout the team with the scoring shared between Tom, George (via a deflection), James and the best goal was from Ben’s header following a nice chipped corner from Jacob. James was man of the match with a good all round performance.

Another well deserved win and its pleasing to see the bar being raised every game. Simon scored his first hat trick, Joe G got 2 and Joe R finished the scoring spree. James and Ben shared the goalkeeping duties in Matt’s absence. Joe W was man of the match for his best performance of the season.

Hove Rivervale W 5-1 W 4-1
The Blue team played some of the best football this season in the second half to come back from being 0-1 down at half time. 3 goals in the first five minutes of the second half put the game out of reach and with two more goals ended the game in a fitting way. Tom with 2, James Ben and an own goal were our scorers. Tom was man of the match with a great performance.

A well deserved win and best performance of the season so far from the Orange team in a game played through a hail storm saw Simon score 2, Joe W and Joe R coming on as subs for the second half also getting on the score sheet. Hopefully the ball watching syndrome has finally been put to bed. Simon was man of the match for a solid game

Withdean Youth D 0-0 D 0-0
Two very good games to watch saw us end up with two draws but no goals to celebrate. Highlight was Matthew's great penalty save in the second half for the Orange team earning him man of the match.Ben won man of the match for the Blue team.

Southwick Rangers W 7-2 W 2-1
Back to winning ways and playing a fast moving push and run style of play during the first half saw us go 5-0 up at half time. With all outfield players looking to get in on the goalscoring act there was another hat trick for Tom with George bagging 2 and James and Jacob adding to the tally. Good distribution from Jack in goal and swopping Bradley to the right and Thomas on the left gave us some nice balance. It was a shame to concede a couple of sloppy goals in the second half and showed that we must concentrate for the whole game. Thomas was Man of Match for his steady display.
The Orange team got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win with Jack playing up front and scoring the first and the second came from an own goal from a corner. Willis had three good chances to put the game out of reach but couldn't finish. Todd and Simon both gave good performances. Southwick replied with a penalty late on with Matthew unlucky not to save. Oliver was Man of the Match

Patcham Utd White L 2-4 L 0-1
The scoreline again did not justify the performance as we were beaten for the second week running. A cooly taken penalty by Ben after Tom was brought down got us in at 1-1 at half time. Tom got us level again in the second half following James's pass. But a sloppy goal from a corner and a disputed penalty then cost us the game. Jack was MoM for a good display and a superb save tipping a shot over the bar in the second half.

The second game saw us lose 0-1 for the third week on the trot. A very much improved performance saw us have chances but fail to score although Jack and everyone on the touchline thought he had equalised only for the ref to say the ball hadn't crossed the line. Charles was MoM for his best game so far this season.

ASC Strikers L 0-3 L 0-1
Our first defeat of the season was against a very good team who scored 2 goals either side of half time and then another one later on in the second half. Although we played some good football in patches we couldn't finish our numerous chances. Disappointing to lose and the feeling was the score flattered them a lot. MoM was Bradley for his first half performance.

The second game saw us lose 0-1 for the second week running and even though we matched them for most of the game we did not create many chances. Ball watching is still a problem and some desire and passion is needed from some players. MoM was Todd for a very solid performance. Thanks to Andy and Richard for refereeing.

Adur Athletic W 5-0 L 0-1.
In the first game we outplayed Adur for most of the game and the opposition did not have a shot at goal. Tom played very well and deserved his four goals and there was good link up play with Ben and Simon and Jacob. Both Thomas and Bradley looked calm at the back and Bradley got forward for much of the game. Jack’s distribution was again good and turned defence in to attack quickly. Tom was given the MoM for his goals but again it was a good all round team performance.

The second game saw us lose the game 0-1, despite a few chances for Willis, Joe G and Joe W we failed to capitalise on and coming in at half time 0-0 we had hoped to get some joy in front of goal in the second half. Unfortunately we lost our shape at the back from a throw in which allowed them to score. Again the opposition were more physical than us at times. Matthew got MoM for his many saves which kept the score down to only 1.

Fishersgate Flyers D 1-1 L 1-2
Saw a much stronger opposition in Fishersgate Flyers who were physically stronger at times. Having injuries throughout the game James (groin) Jacob (foot)and George(head)disrupted the team and although we led from a great headed goal from Tom following Ben's corner we always looked under pressure. Despite a super save from Jack we conceeded the equaliser in the last few minutes from a very well taken lob from Fishersgate's no 10 their best player. Tom was given the MoM for his headed goal but all players can hold their heads up high for a battling 1-1 draw.
The second game saw us lose the game 1-2, a couple of sloppy defensive errors cost both goals and despite Joe G grabbing a lifeline we couldn't make the final push for the equaliser. Todd got MoM. Thanks to Andy and Richard for refereeing.

Patcham Utd Blue W 3-1 W 3-0
A bright start to the season saw both teams win their opening games 3-1 and 3-0 respectively. Good footballing performances from both sides with goals for George (2) and James in the first game. Simon, Joe G and Joe R scoring in the second game. MoM's George and Simon. Also thanks to Andy and Matt for refereeing.
